Shopping For Baseball Gear: How To Buy Bats And Gloves

Anyone who wants to get started in the sport of baseball is going to need to make sure they have all the right gear.  There is a lot of different baseball gear that you could purchase but buying bats and gloves is the best place to get started.  Starting with your bat, there are a few features that are important to look for when shopping.  To get things going you want to look for a bat and it depends on the age of the player as to what size of bat will be appropriate.

If you’re looking for a baseball bat to use in tee-ball for instance, it would be used by children ages 5 through 7.  These are the lightest regulation bats and are comfortable for little hands to hold without weighing them down.  Then there are the Little League bats which are just a little bit larger in size and weight.  Little League bat lengths range from about 28 to 32 inches.

Getting even larger are the Senior League bats which have barrel diameters of 2 5/8 to 2 ¾ inches.  Finally there are the high school and college bats which are the largest and heaviest, anywhere from 30 to 34 inches in length.  Once you have chosen the right bat you can get started on finding a glove.  When it comes to shopping for other baseball gear such as gloves, there are also certain things you want to look for.

There are three main areas of interest you should have when shopping for a baseball glove: webbing, pocket depth and backs.  Webbing refers to the open or closed web on a glove and it’s important to choose the style based on what field position you will be playing.  The pocket depth on a glove on the other hand, should be determined based on the field position that you play.  Shallow pockets are better for players who need to be able to catch the ball quickly and throw it, while deeper pockets are suitable for players in the outfield who are more likely to catch fly balls.

Choosing the right glove size is also hugely important.  Your glove should be loose enough that your hand has room to move around but not so much so that it feels as though it could fall off.  You should decide on a budget before heading out to shop for baseball gear.  Baseball is a challenging and incredibly fun sport to play, just make sure that you have all the right gear and are ready for the game.
