How to get free toys for christmas

Sunday, January 4th, 2009

With Christmas around the corner and with the Economy in recession, a lot of people have been struggling to make ends meet. Many parents are finding it hard to provide gifts for their children. So let´s investigate and try to unearth some free gifts for Christmas.

For starters, a great place to go for help is your local church. Many churches have programs where people donate spare clothes or toys to the church. Volunteers set up little stores and give the donated gifts to the needy for free. The church is always a great place to start.

Certain charities like the Salvation Army are another great place to get some Christmas gifts for free. The Salvation Army always provides help to the needy. During Christmas especially, they give out free gifts to the families that cannot afford to buy their own. They have a great selection of gifts because the charity works 365 days a year. The Salvation Army always provides help to the needy and will ensure the Christmas Spirit visits your home this Christmas.

Another great way you can receive gifts for free this Christmas is to search major companies for promotions and free give aways. When a large company produces a new line of toys, they are eager for the public to try these out before they go on sale. If you´re lucky enough, you could be the proud owner of new toys before they even hit the shelves.

Last but not least, always check the local papers in the classified section. You will be pleasantly surprised how many good people are giving away their old toys for free. That´s right; people advertise their generosity and are willing to help any which way they can. The classifieds are usually full during Christmas time.

In the spirit of Christmas, make sure you pass on these tips to the people that need it the most. Have a Merry Christmas and a Safe New Year.

Get rid of bed bugs for good

Saturday, January 3rd, 2009

Do you wake up in the mornings with redness, itching, swelling and burning sensations. The chances are your bed is infested with bed bugs. People are usually bitten around the shoulder, back and arm region in distinctive lines. These bites are not dangerous but if the recipient continues to scratch them, they may become infected. If the redness or swelling increases due to scratching seek medical advice.

Bed bugs are minute insects which cannot be seen and feed on human blood by piercing the skin. They usually feed at night when the bed is occupied by the owners. It´s important to establish that these bed bugs do not live on humans. These insects are very mobile but cannot travel long distances to feed. Bed bugs are commonly found on mattresses and can travel long distances using a host such as people, furniture or luggage.

Research has proven that bed bugs are safe pests because they do not carry any diseases and are not capable of transferring any diseases. So once you´ve established that your bed has these bugs, the question that needs to be answered is, “how do I get rid of them?”

For starters you´re going to need a lot of patience. Eradicating this problem will take time and perseverance. Every last bug needs to be killed and all the eggs need to be destroyed. A female adult can lay up to 3 eggs a day. So it is crucial that all bugs are removed at once.

There are non-chemical treatments that can be employed to significantly reduce the number of bed bugs. Regular inspections of your bed which includes the mattress, bed head and carpet area are a good start. If you suspect any areas of being infested, wash the affected areas with warm water and disinfectant. If the bed linen is infested, remove it at once and wash it thoroughly.

If the infestation has already taken place, you will need to contact a licensed pest manager for chemical treatment as soon as possible. The longer you leave this infestation to spread, the harder it will be to control.

By using both chemical and non-chemical treatments the battle against bed bugs can be won. Once the problem has been eradicated, its advisable to make routine check ups to ensure that the problem doesn´t return. Like the saying goes, “don´t let the bed bugs bite!”

The most popular toys in the world

Friday, January 2nd, 2009

A lot of people sit and wonder what the most popular toy in the market is. Especially with Christmas just around the corner, parents are starting to show an interest in the world of kid´s toys. To be honest, it´s very hard to keep up with the new trends and technology of today. Kids have an endless supply of toys, ranging from board games, Barbie dolls, Playstations and computer games. So what is the most popular game in the world?

The answer to this question we need to take a snapshot of today´s society. Today we live in a very hi-tech era where computers and technology rule the gaming world. It would be a safe bet to assume Nintendo, Playstation and Xbox are high on the popularity list. But to the surprise of most parents, the most popular games today have been around for many generations.

Companies like Tonka Trucks and Play-Doh have dominated the toy scene for decades. Let´s not forget the Barbie doll with the ever changing accessories needed to help keep up with the latest fashions. For those a little older, can you remember the Cabbage Patch Kids? They dominated the 80´s with more than 600 million dollars in sales. These companies have survived and still continue to manufacture their products to the general masses.

Most of these companies have played a big part in shaping children´s lives all over the world. But if I was to give a trophy to the most popular toy in the world it would go to Lego. Lego has been given the title of “Toy of the Century” and it has been dominating the kids market for over 50 years. Lego was first introduced to the world back in 1949 and continues to produce an estimated 20,000,000,000 pieces per year in order to feed the hunger kids have for Lego.

Lego has clearly been the most popular toy over the years and has continually beaten the latest crazes and trends to clear dominate the world of Kids Toys. So to quickly set your mind at ease, the most popular toy in the world is Lego.

How to stop kids from bed wetting

Thursday, January 1st, 2009

Bedwetting also referred to as “nocturnal enuresis” is a common problem amongst young kids and their families. The common question that arises from this problem is” Why does it happen?”

To suggest bedwetting derives itself from one reason would be quite naïve and ignorant. The most common cause of bedwetting is that the child does not wake up when his/her bladder is full. Heavy sleepers are usually not awoken by a full bladder and are more susceptible to wetting their bed. Also some children have bladders that cannot accommodate large quantities of urine and find it hard to control their bladder during sleep.

Research has discovered that bedwetting tends to run in the family. Sometimes this problem can be linked to a medical problem so it´s advisable that you do seek medical attention initially.

At the end of the day, there is nothing to be ashamed about. Make certain that your child understands this and is reassured that the problem is only a short term one. Most children who wet the bed grow out of it fairly quickly. Also let your children know that other members of the family use to wet the bed and that its not frowned upon.

An easy way to deal with this is to cover the mattress with a sheet of plastic or any other water proof material. Also allow your child to wear pull ups or thick underpants to help deal with the periods of excessive bedwetting. If the child still manages to wet the bed, ensure the bed is cleaned up as quickly as possible. Never allow your child to clean up the mess. They might assume this is punishment for something they have no control over. Children often feel sad after they wet the bed so make sure to entertain them with a different thought or idea.

Under no circumstance should you punish your child, criticize or make fun of them. This will inevitably magnify the problem by making them tense and anxious. Also it´s a good idea to ensure your child that it´s a secret and that no one else needs to know. If you can get your child to relax and be calm about it, half the problem is solved. Don´t be responsible for added pressures and confusion. Always lend a helping hand when your child is in need of help.

Most children do not need to take medication for this problem and should resort to this solution as the last option. The best solution after prolonged bedwetting would be to buy a mattress bedwetting alarm. These alarms are made up of a rubber mat that can be placed on the bed. The alarm operates at a low voltage so there is no danger involved in this sort of treatment. Once the alarm is installed, practice setting the alarm off with water and explain the situation to your child. This will avoid any shock surprises during the night and also give your child the awareness he/she needs to quickly run to the toilet. Finally, the most important tip is to always emphasize to your children that you love them and that this is an insignificant phase in their life.

How to get kids out of bed in the morning

Wednesday, December 31st, 2008

Are you having problems getting your kids out of bed in the morning? Don´t be alarmed you´re not the only one. Remember Kids sleeping patterns are different to adults. Their body clock is designed to go to bed late and wake up even later. So how do we combat this?

Research has proven that kids require 9 hours sleep on average. For starters it´s advisable that you put your kids to bed early. That way you ensure adequate sleep for your youngsters. Also give your child responsibilities that require them to wake up on time. Get them to make their own breakfast and pack their own lunch for school.

Another great way to get your child out of bed is to place the alarm clock out of reach and place it on the other side of the room. That way they need to get out of bed to stop the alarm clock. If your child fails to follow the new set of rules and continues to sleep in, add disciplinary actions that will ensure your child gets up on time. Once your child becomes accountable and is faced with consequences, they will inevitably make the effort to get out of bed on time.

When your child fails to get up on time, do not yell or scream at them. Instead punish them by removing the television and unplugging the Playstation or computer. Removing certain luxuries from their life will make them think twice before they sleep in again.

Giving your child a reason to wake up early is the best way to tackle this problem. Once the alarm clock rings the child will quickly get out of bed to avoid the risk of losing his/her television privileges. All of a sudden your child becomes accountable and is required to get out of bed; it´s no longer an option.

Once you have established a decent sleeping pattern, reward this new habit. Reward your child by cooking a special breakfast like pancakes and even buy them a small gift for co-operating. By rewarding your child it gives them incentives for waking up early and creates a healthy sleeping pattern. The longer they stay in bed in the morning, the harder it will be to put them to bed at night. Get them up early and keep your kids active during the day to ensure when its bedtime they have depleted all their energy levels.

In the initial periods, restrict or eliminate all sugary drinks from your child´s diet. Also limit the amount of junk food the child consumes in the afternoon. This will help avoid the effects of sugar on a young child. The last thing you want is trying to force a child to go to bed when he/she is high on sugar. From experience, it will never happen.

Remember to teach your child the importance of responsibilities. If you do it all for them, they have got no reason to get out of bed.

Finding Hanukkah Gifts

Tuesday, November 25th, 2008

If you are looking for the perfect Hanukkah Gift for somebody then let me tell you straight off that you are heading into problems. Not only is there not a ‘perfect’ give, but also you need to find out exactly what the person that you are buying it for wants and also what they have already.

Buying a Hanukkah Gift for somebody that has it already is a massive faux pas and should be avoided under all circumstances. Not only that, but it shows that you didn’t do enough research to make sure that that person actually wants what you have bought for them.

In a way, buying a gift for a child is much easier as children aren’t so fussy on what you buy for them as long as it has some great wrapping paper and it is something that they can show to their friends. You should keep this in mind as it will no doubt save a lot of tears.

Buying a Hanukkah gifts for a loved one is also something that seems to cause a lot of heart-break. Early on in the relationship you can probably get away with just buying flowers or some cheap jewellery. However, as the relationship progresses, you will find that you have to buy something which is far more relevant to the person that you are buying it for and that it has to be far more personal.

Hanukkah is a time for rejoicing and remembering the miracles that happened many years ago. My advice, is not to get too caught up in what presents you are going to buy someone but also take notice of what a joyous occasion it is and how you can spend it with much joy with people whom you really love. Either that, or buy the wrong present this year and make up for it next year!

Protecting Your Children Online

Wednesday, September 17th, 2008

The Internet is a very powerful tool. In the past it has been essentially a huge archive of all the worlds information but now the web has evolved and changed a lot. The web is no longer just about information and news it’s more about people and social networks. Were as before chat rooms were reserved for people with special interests ( such as a trade) and cyber  super nerds sits like Facebook and Bebo have made it cool to have friends on the web.

In many ways this trend is a good thing it allows kids to interact with their friends from all around the country in a safe and fun way. However in some cases things can be totally different. As the web becomes more of a social medium in also brings with it some of the social problems of society, problems such a bullying and predatory adults who seek out week and venerable people such as children and exploit them.

As the web now begins to mimic society as a whole parents as they do in normal society are beginning to try and think of ways that they can protect their children online. Often parents take extreme action when worrying about their kids online such as banning them form using the Internet or restricting their access to one or two approved sites. In my opinion this is very similar to parents who keep their children locked inside all day and never let them out into the real world. It’s harmful for kids not to be allowed to interact and can harm their development. Equally at the other extreme there are those parents who let their kids do whatever the hell they like, sometimes this approach is ok but a lot of the time those kids end up in trouble. The key is a healthy balance but how can you achieve this on line?

In order too allow you children the freedom they need to explore and learn on the Internet there are a few simple steps you can follow. The first and probably most importance of these steps is to talk to your child about the dangers of the Internet and take an interest in what they do, try not to lecture your children or interrogate them just be interested in them and their online friends. Try to work with your child to come up with a set of rules for Internet use that you can both agree on and then type these out and post them up next to the computer. Think about the location of your computer, a good location is where other people can see the screen and where there are usually other people in the room.

Once you have taken these basic steps if you are still not comfortable with your child using the Internet there are a couple of other measures you can take. You can download free adult filters from the web, these are not 100% affective and still won’t help protect your children from bullies of predators but they will help protect against adult content. The second thing you can do is download software to monitor and protect your children online. This software will record all your child’s activities including conversations which they have with people over the net using instant messenger and other online services. There is a small cost to downloading this software but it will allow you to see everything your child does online and will be totally indictable to the child. The software can act like an invisible safety net to your other measures of protection.

In Summary try not to overreact to the potential dangers of the net there are many good things out their and the Internet can be a very useful tool to helping you child’s academic and social education but also keep in mind there are risk and you need to remain ever on your guard in order to effectively protect your children online.
